Harris Teeter Reveals Details For New Concept Store Opening In NC: 201central

Charlotte, N.C. – Harris Teeter is currently renovating two locations into a new concept store called 201central, which will feature an extensive variety of wine, beer, specialty foods and other general merchandise items. 201central is branded in reference to one of the original Harris Food Stores, Store #201, on Central Avenue in Charlotte, N.C. Store #201 was not only the first full self-service supermarket in Charlotte, but it was also the first air-conditioned grocery store and was the first to stay open until 9 p.m. on Friday nights.

Harris Teeter was established in 1960 when co-founders W.T. Harris and Willis Teeter merged operations. The company continues to follow in the innovative footsteps of its founders today, and 201central allows the company to re-define its approach to grocery, offering more specialty services for its customers including in-store wine consultants, event coordination and catering as well as party rentals and educational classes focused on wine, beer and food pairings.

201central is a new approach for Harris Teeter, and we believe that 201central will become your central place to find everything you need to make all your celebrations the best.

The store will carry over 3,100 varieties of wine and over 680 varieties of beer from around the world, including approximately 35 brands of keg beer and local beers including Red Oak, Olde Mecklenburg, and Carolina Brewing. In addition, these stores will carry home brewing and wine making systems and products.

201central will also have a wide range of the following product lines: cigars; specialty cheese and olives; artisan breads; bulk foods including coffee, tea, nuts, grains and rice; and other specialty and common favorites of beverages and snack items, including Gluten Free items. Harris Teeter is also planning for expanded international foods including Asian, Middle Eastern, English, Indian, Italian, Kosher, Mexican and South American products, not to mention local and regional products such as barbecue sauce, dips, salad dressings direct from North Carolina and bordering state producers.

Customers will also have the opportunity to purchase wine and bar accessories, party goods, appliances, kitchen gadgets and seasonal products.

The stores will be approximately 30,000 square feet and will be located at 13108 Eastfield Road in Huntersville, N.C. and 5939 Weddington-Monroe Road in Wesley Chapel, N.C. The Very Important Customer (VIC) card will be valid at these locations, and 201central will also honor the advertised items or promotions that are active within the Harris Teeter chain. The most updated information about beer and wine tastings, as well as educational class schedules at 201central will be available at harristeeter.com and in-store. The hours of operation are Monday through Thursday 10 a.m. – 9 p.m., Friday and Saturday 9 a.m. – 10 p.m. and Sunday noon – 7 p.m.; the 201cafe will be open similar hours.
