Marsh To Build Up To 10 New Stores & Remodel, Rebuild Others By '14

INDIANAPOLIS — Marsh Supermarkets plans to spend $60 million to build up to 10 new stores and remodel or rebuild several more over the next three years.

New Marsh chief executive Joe Kelley told The Indianapolis Business Journal last Tuesday that the new stores will measure 40,000 to 60,000 square feet and emphasize fresh produce and service-oriented departments like bakeries, delis and butchers. The Fishers-based chain now has 70 flagship Marsh stores and 27 smaller Mainstreet Market stores.

Kelley also says he's working on plans to expand the number of Marsh-branded items from just 100 to more than 1,000 within two years and to revamp the chain's Marsh's Fresh Idea shopper loyalty program to reward loyal customers and entice lapsed customers to return.
