Wisconsin’s Friesland Foods To Close After 110 Years

FRIESLAND, WI – The hardwood floor creaks beneath the customer's feet as he pushes his cart through the one checkout lane at Friesland Foods.

It's a sound that the store's owner, Janice Bobholz – who's ringing up the purchases at the cash register – won't hear much longer.

After 110 years in business, Friesland Foods is closing its doors at the end of February – forever, unless Bobholz can find someone willing to take over the store.

She owns the inventory but rents the downtown Friesland space that has been the store's location since 1923. In the back of the store – above the meat counter, where beef is ground fresh daily – there's a watercolor painting of the building where the store was located when it opened in 1901. The old store was moved. It was, and still is, a private residence in Friesland.
