Greenshell Mussels Tops US Export Awards

Greenshell Mussels has taken the Supreme Award at this year's American Chamber of Commerce Success and Innovation Awards.

The Auckland headquartered company organically farms and harvests around 10,000 tonnes of mussels annually in the Coromandel – more than 10% of the national harvest – and processes in Tauranga.

Accepting the award, Peter Vitasovich – who founded the business in 1990 – said since the global financial crisis the company had broadened its product lines and moved away from commodity products into value added ranges.

He paid tribute to his team, which included 36 people who support another 180 drawn to the Coromandel to work for the company.
