Mississippi Seafood Marketing Program Announces Fall Promotion Calendar

BILOXI, Miss. – The Mississippi Department of Marine Resources’ Seafood Marketing Program will promote Gulf Safe Wild-caught Mississippi seafood at a variety of Coast festivals and events this fall as part of the “Gulf Safe” campaign to increase consumers’ confidence in Mississippi seafood.

The message of the “Gulf Safe Seafood” campaign is that Gulf seafood is only harvested from open, regulated waters and is tested extensively to ensure consumers’ safety.

“The reality is that consumers are apprehensive about Gulf seafood,” said Irvin Jackson, director of the Mississippi Seafood Marketing Program. “We’re trying hard to reverse the trend by taking seafood directly to consumers at local and regional events to give them the opportunity to sample our high-quality Gulf seafood.”

If you are a restaurant owner and would like to help promote Mississippi seafood by displaying “Gulf Safe” promotional materials such as posters, window stickers and counter-top signs in your business, please call the DMR (228) 374-5000 and ask for Seafood Marketing.

In addition to being at local events, the seafood marketing team will also showcase Gulf Safe Wild-caught Mississippi shrimp at the 2010 Mid-Atlantic Food, Beverage and Lodging Expo in Baltimore, Maryland Oct. 6 – 7.
