Open Blue Offers New Harvest Direct Program For Its Open Blue Cobia

Boston and Panama City, Panama – Open Blue, a leader in open ocean raised cobia, today announced its Harvest Direct Program. Straight from the ocean to your door, Open Blue’s new Harvest Direct program ensures buyers receive the freshest cobia possible. The new program keeps Open Blue Cobia, a warm water, marine white fish, in their clean, natural and regulated environment until the last possible moment.

Open Blue’s Harvest Direct Program works on a pre-ordering system. Only after Open Blue has received an order does the harvesting and shipping process begin. Open Blue Cobia is harvested directly into super chilled seawater for stunning and rapid core chilling. This method is considered the most humane method of harvest for warm water fish species such as cobia. Open Blue Cobia remain iced and insulated, in sealed harvest totes, en route to Open Blue’s processing plant in Panama City where they are cleaned, boxed and shipped. Each fish is uniquely labeled with an Open Blue identification tag to ensure full traceability. Our customers receive orders as early as 48 hours of harvest and will have ample time – a week or more – to sell the product in a fresh, premium state.

“Open Blue is currently the single largest supplier of fresh cobia to the US and the largest open ocean farm in the western hemisphere,” said Brian O’Hanlon, Open Blue’s President and Founder. “We control quality and maintain full traceability through every step of our open ocean aquaculture process. Our new Harvest Direct program enables us to regulate when Open Blue Cobia are harvested and shipped ensuring that the freshest cobia are always delivered. Open Blue is committed to innovation and aims to serve as a role model to the aquaculture industry.” Open Blue Cobia is carefully cultivated in deep ocean waters to produce a reliable, sustainable source of premium fish.

Open Blue Cobia has one of the longest shelf lives on the market due to the high-energy environment and pristine waters the fish are raised in, the quality of the feed Open Blue provides them, and the speed with which they are harvested and shipped. Open Blue delivers safe and healthy seafood products to the market, while maintaining an integrated open ocean farming platform.

Open Blue is exhibiting at the International Boston Seafood Show March 11-13 at the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center in Boston, MA. Stop by the Company’s booth, number 2272, for more information and to enter for a chance to win a trip to Panama to visit Open Blue’s open ocean farm.
