PEI Fishermen's Association Partnership Promotes Lobster

A partnership with the Prince Edward Island Fishermen’s Association to promote lobster at the Charlottetown Airport will help increase demand and strengthen the industry, says Fisheries, Aquaculture and Rural Development Minister Ron MacKinley.

“Prince Edward Island has some of the best lobster in the world,” said Minister MacKinley. “We are focusing this campaign on travelers arriving at the Charlottetown Airport to ensure they know where to buy lobster while they are on the Island. We want to make sure they don’t miss the opportunity to taste the best.”

The joint promotion includes a video and new digital signage promoting Prince Edward Island lobster at the airport, Welcome PEI Handbook advertisements, a redesigned lobster brochure, and the launch of a new lobster website, tastepeilobster.ca. The website features a photo contest with prizes for the best lobster fishing photos.

“This joint promotional effort is a great example of the PEIFA and the department working together to promote our lobster fishery. These efforts are aimed at all the visitors who come to Prince Edward Island. In a challenging year like 2013, it is critical that we encourage people to eat our incredible Island lobster,” said Mike McGeoghegan, President of the Prince Edward Island Fishermen’s Association.

Almost 300,000 passengers travel through the Charlottetown Airport annually.

“Promotion of lobster and other seafood products needs to be carried out locally, regionally, nationally and internationally,” said Minister MacKinley. “We are working hard to expand markets and increase demand for our seafood products.”
