Despite two reports recommending a levy to market lobster, the president of the P.E.I. Fishermen’s Association says the idea isn’t getting a warm reception from some Island fishermen.
Mike McGeoghegan, the PEIFA’s president, said if there is a levy used to market lobster from the region, Island fishermen want to know how it will benefit them.
“How’s P.E.I. fit in to that?”
In recent weeks, the Maritime Lobster Panel and former auditor general Colin Younker released reports that provided recommendations on ways to improve the state of the lobster industry. Both of those reports recommended a levy that would be used for marketing to help boost sales, with the hope it would lead to higher prices.
