NEW BEDFORD Seafood buyers from all corners of the world will visit New Bedford today [March 15] to meet with some of the areas leading seafood companies. Twenty-five seafood buyers will visit the Whaling City Seafood Auction and six New Bedford seafood companies before attending a seafood industry luncheon featuring New Bedford Mayor Scott Lang.
The buyers on the tour represent nations including including Aruba, Bulgaria, China, Canada, France, Netherlands, Russia, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, Turkey and the United Arab Emirates.
The international visitors will be in Massachusetts for the 2010 International Boston Seafood Show. Food Export USA, a nonprofit export promotion organization, will sponsor the visit of the foreign buyers specifically to promote northeastern U.S. seafood exports.
