Shrimp Survey Aims To Help Gulf Seafood Industry

HATTIESBURG, MS. — Researchers at Southern Miss are determining what impact the oil spill disaster has had on public perception of Gulf of Mexico shrimp.

Through a series of surveys starting at the onset of the oil well explosion last spring, these researchers are measuring purchasing loyalty of Gulf shrimp.

Two public surveys have been completed so far and now a third survey is online to measure public concerns surrounding shrimp safety following the capping of the oil well. Researchers, like David Duhon with the USM College of Business, hope the results will help the seafood industry rebound.
