NGOs and Processors Celebrate Culmination of 15 Years of Fishery Improvement Work in the U.S. Gulf of Mexico Shrimp Fishery

The American Shrimp Processors Association entered the U.S. Gulf of Mexico shrimp fishery into sustainability assessments under the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) and Certified Seafood Collaborative (CSC) Responsible Fisheries Management (RFM) certification programs, two of the world’s leading wild fishery sustainability standards. 

Federal Waters off Texas Close to Shrimping on May 15, 2023

NOAA Fisheries announces federal waters from 9 to 200 nautical miles off Texas will close to shrimp trawling 30 minutes after official sunset, local time, on May 15, 2023, corresponding to the time Texas closes its state waters to shrimp trawling.

G.U.L.F. RFM Certification Transitions Over to CSC RFM Certification Starting with U.S. Gulf of Mexico Shrimp

With great excitement, the Certified Seafood Collaborative (CSC) announces that the Audubon Nature Institute’s Gulf United for Lasting Fisheries (G.U.L.F.) Responsible Fisheries Management (RFM) Certification program is transitioning over to the CSC’s RFM Certification program beginning with an RFM assessment for white, brown, and pink shrimp in all five Gulf states and federal waters. 

MDMR Announces Shrimp Season to Close West of Gulfport Ship Channel; Additional Waters South of Intracoastal Waterway Remain Open

Officials with the Mississippi Department of Marine Resources (MDMR) announced today that beginning Monday, May 1, 2023, all waters south of the Intracoastal Waterway (ICW) and west of the Gulfport Ship Channel in Mississippi territorial waters are closed to shrimping.

Second Edition of Aquaculture Stewardship Council and Sustainable Shrimp Partnership’s Shrimp Summit in Ecuador Attracts Buyers from Major Markets Across the Globe

Following a successful inaugural of the Shrimp Summit in July 2022, the Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC) and Sustainable Shrimp Partnership (SSP) are hosting another ASC Shrimp Summit on June 12-14, 2023. In 2022, ASC buyers and seafood suppliers from the United States and Canada such as Sysco, Alberton’s, Disney, Ahold Delhaize USA, Metro, and Loblaws joined the event. This year, shrimp buyers from all three major and promising export markets of Ecuador – North America, Europe, and Japan – have confirmed their participation.
