As New Hampshire Oysters Become More Popular, State Will Test for ‘Vibrio’ Bacteria 

Plump, briny oysters harvested in New Hampshire are finding their way onto more menus, and state officials say it’s time to start evaluating the risk for a naturally occurring bacteria that’s made headlines elsewhere. 

Climate Change Projected to Increase Costs of U.S. Vibrio Infections

Climate change is expected to expand the range and season of Vibrio infections as sea surface temperatures become warmer. There is evidence this already may be happening. In 2004, a Vibrio outbreak occurred in Alaska, more than 600 miles north of any previously recorded. Once rare in Oregon and Washington, infections now regularly occur there.

Response to the recommendations from the National Working Group for Vibrio parahaemolyticus Control in BC Oysters for Raw Consumption

Following an outbreak of illnesses caused by Vibrio in British Columbia oysters in 2015, a working group of regulators and industry members discussed perceived gaps in the current controls for Vibrio. The regulators were at the provincial and federal level, and included the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA).
