INDEPENDENCE TWP. — Milk production at a local dairy has been suspended for the second time this year after bacteria was discovered in a bottle of milk.
The state departments of Health and Agriculture issued a warning Friday to consumers and retailers to discard all milk produced by Brunton Dairy in Independence Township with a sell-by date of Oct. 25, after ongoing oversight testing returned a positive result for Yersinia enterocolitica.
The family-run dairy, which sells products at several retail establishments throughout Beaver, Butler, Lawrence and Allegheny counties, voluntarily suspended milk production using its on-site pasteurization facility in late July after 16 people who consumed the dairy's milk became sick.
