California’s 7th Annual Artisan Cheese Festival Announces Sunday Brunch & Marketplace Participants

The United States’ premier artisan cheese event, the 7th Annual California’s Artisan Cheese Festival, today announces the participants in the Festival’s finale events: the Stark Reality Brunch and Artisan Cheese Tasting and Marketplace on Sunday, March 24, 2013. Chef Mark Stark of Stark Reality Restaurants will be hosting “Let the Cheese Shine” brunch and cooking demonstration on Sunday morning before the main event of the day, the Artisan Cheese Tasting and Marketplace.

Swiss Valley Farms and its subsidiary company, Caves of Faribault, took home two Best of Class wins for Mindoro Gorg and St. Pete’s Select at the 2013 U.S. Championship Cheese Contest, held March 12 – 13 in Green Bay, Wisconsin. The contest, which is hosted by the Wisconsin Cheese Makers Association (WCMA), is a biennial event that is the largest technical evaluation of cheese and butter in the country, attracting participants from across the nation.

Two cheeses made by Sonoma County’s Laura Chenel’s Chèvre captured top awards at the annual U.S. Championship Cheese Contest, held March 13 at Lambeau Field in Green Bay, Wisconsin. Competing with 1702 cheese from 30 states, Laura Chenel’s Fresh Log scored 99.1 out of 100 points for second place in the Soft Goat Cheese Category. Mèlodie, an aged, ash-rinded cheese launched in late 2011, tipped the scales with 99.6 points for third place in the Surface Ripened Cheese category.

New Effort Planned To Lift Ban On Wisconsin Raw Milk Sales

Another attempt to legalize the sale of raw, unpasteurized milk to Wisconsin consumers is coming before the Legislature and could have the support of Gov. Scott Walker if it contains provisions to safeguard public health.
