5 Generation Bakers Plans National Expansion, Developing New Sandwich Bread

McKees Rocks-based 5 Generation Bakers, which dates back to 1875, is best known for its Jenny Lee Swirl Bread, distinctive cylinder-shaped cinnamon-fragrant loaves beloved by Pittsburghers for decades.

SteelBridge, an advisory and investment firm, said its Portfolio Company Services business is assisting 5 Generation in developing and implementing a strategy for national expansion by improving manufacturing processes and operations and diversifying product offerings.

With the assistance of Honeycomb Credit, 5 Generation has raised capital to fund development of a sandwich bread. Honeycomb Credit is a portfolio company of SteelBridge Labs, SteelBridge’s software venture capital business practice.

“SteelBridge is providing a new perspective on our business operations and the financial impact of the decisions we are making to allow for future growth,” Scott Baker, 5 Generation Bakers president, said in a release. “We are working closely with SteelBridge to operate and navigate through this exciting and critical growth period. “
