WASHINGTON, D.C. – The American Bakers Association (ABA) is pleased to offer the Fall Policy Conference to bring baking industry professionals in all specializations together for education, networking and industry advocacy in Washington, D.C., Sept. 10-12, 2018.
“The Fall Policy Conference is an important event for all baking industry professionals who want to be a part of educating the nation’s policymakers on what is best for the industry,” said ABA President & CEO Robb MacKie. “This is the chance for companies to interact with congressional members on Capitol Hill through the guidance of ABA and to collaborate with like-minded professionals. ABA members are the best advocates for addressing the industry’s policy issues, and the Fall Policy Conference is the forum to accomplish that.”
“The Fall Policy Conference is where the baking industry joins together with a unified industry voice and shares industry concerns and suggestions in front of policymakers whose decisions impact baking businesses’ day-to-day operations,” said Turano Baking Company’s VP Legal Lisa Turano. “The conference has a central theme of education – industry experts educate attendees about key topics and industry opportunities, and attendees educate members of Congress about their business needs and functions. The experience keeps getting better each year as I become more deeply involved in ABA and develop stronger, deeper relationships with legislators. I feel more comfortable on the Hill with each visit.”
The program includes the following:
- Committee Meeting Breakouts that address emerging trends and policy issues important to the success of the baking industry
- The signature Bakers' Dozen Reception on Capitol Hill where ABA members and members of Congress and their staff enjoy an evening of industry-focused conversation, featuring ABA member products
- Visits with elected officials and their staff to discuss the important policy issues impacting the baking industry
- Capitol Hill Briefing Breakfast, private evening reception at Capitol Lounge and additional networking opportunities
In addition to being able to attend all of the networking events and Capitol Hill visits, attendees will choose one specific area from the Policy Committee Meeting Breakouts most applicable to their area of expertise for a day of education. The choice of breakouts includes:
- Food Technical Regulatory Affairs – professionals who are responsible for regulatory affairs, food safety, quality assurance, marketing, and research and development
- Legal – professionals who work in compliance or legal fields
- Energy and Environment – professionals who work in sustainability, energy or environment fields
- HR and Safety – professionals who work in human resources, workplace safety, workplace development or labor regulatory fields
- Logistics – professionals who work in distribution, logistics or transportation
