Keystone Senator Scott Brown To Address ABA Board Of Directors

WASHINGTON, D.C. The American Bakers Association is extremely pleased to announce Senator Scott Brown (R-MA) as the special guest speaker for the Board of Directors meeting on September 21. The ABA Board will meet alongside its counterpart, the Allied Trades of the Baking Industry (ATBI) for a special joint session in Washington, D.C.

“On the heels of June’s successful meeting with Secretary Vilsack, we are very excited to have a true trailblazer like Senator Brown addressing the baking industry's leaders,” said ABA President & CEO Robb MacKie. “Senator Brown was the lynchpin 41st vote on key issues like healthcare and card check, making him a great friend for not only America’s bakers but businesses everywhere.”

Scott Brown came to Washington as the junior senator from Massachusetts following a victory in the 2010 special election filling the vacant seat of longtime Senate veteran Ted Kennedy. Prior to his election, he served in both houses of the Massachusetts state legislature, and remains active with the state’s Army National Guard.

“Though a new face in town, Senator Brown has quickly built an impressive, independent voting record that puts the health of the economy before all else,” continued MacKie. “The ABA and ATBI Board members share his goal of reenergizing the markets and look forward to hearing how we can be a part of that solution.”

“We also applaud Senator Brown for his commonsense leadership and responsiveness on issues critical to our Massachusetts members. He was a tremendous voice for them on key priorities like commodity market volatility,  ethanol, and labor regulations,” concluded MacKie.

The ABA Board of Directors is comprised of top leaders from all segments of the baking industry who help develop consensus policies that improve the government environment and overall health of the baking industry. Allen Shiver, president of Flowers Foods, is chairman of the board.
