Production Up Again At Victoria's Cakes Etc. After Loss Of Starbucks Contract

The oat bars are rolling again at Cakes Etc.

Six months after Starbucks pulled its national contract for the baked treat, the Victoria bakery is ramping up production again after securing deals with major grocery chains and other food outlets.

Deb Cater's Vancouver Island Oat Bar was a top seller at more than 1,000 Starbucks locations across Canada. But the coffee giant severed its 16-year relationship late last year after reorganizing its baking operations from regional sources to a single national hub.

Cakes Etc., a full service bakery that specializes in wedding cakes and other treats, had been producing about 7,200 oat bars a day. The loss of the Starbucks contract meant the layoff of eight staff and a scaling back of production.
