Red Star Achieves High Grade For Food Safety & Quality Certification

Red Star Yeast Company is pleased to announce that its yeast manufacturing plant in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, has received an “A” grade, for the third consecutive year, certifying it meets all food safety and quality management requirements under the BRC Global Standard for Food Safety. The state-of-the-art plant produces Red Star® brand fresh yeast, in liquid, crumbled and blocks form, and inactive dry yeast that is brought to market by Lesaffre Yeast Corporation and is used by commercial bakers throughout North America. Red Star’s plant in Dothan, Alabama is also certified with an “A” rating by BRC.

The BRC (British Retail Consortium) Certification standards are certified by the Global Food Safety Initiative, the global benchmark for best practices in the food industry. Under the BRC Global Standard for Food Safety Issue 6, Red Star Yeast Company is certified as a business that continuously works to produce high quality products that are safe and handled in a manner to eliminate food security concerns.

According to the Global Food Safety Initiative, the certification process provides a high degree of confidence that Red Star’s manufacturing practices and food safety management systems are adequately designed, implemented and maintained.
