Richmond Baking Files Suit Against RP&L, City Over Electrical Fire

RICHMOND, Ind. — A blown transformer that caused a fire on the roof of Richmond Baking Company two years ago has led to a lawsuit filed recently against Richmond Power & Light and the city.

Richmond Baking and its insurance provider, Charter Oak Fire Insurance Company, are named as plaintiffs in the suit filed in Wayne County Circuit Court.

On April 21, 2017, flames broke out on the roof of the business at 520 N. Sixth St. when a transformer nearby caught fire. Richmond Baking employees were evacuated as RP&L shut off the power to the building and Richmond Fire Department went to work.
