Sciortino's Bakery Plans Expansion On Milwaukee's Brady Street

Peter Sciortino's Bakery, a staple of Milwaukee’s Brady Street area with a 65-year history, is planning to expand its building and business.

“Our wholesale has just gotten so large that we don’t have the room any more,” said Rhiana Vella, of the Vella family that owns Sciortino.

The Sicilian bakers of breads, cookies and other sweet pastries is on the southeast corner of East Brady Street and North Humboldt Avenue. The Vellas have bought a single-family house to the south of their building and plan to demolish that house and construct an addition to expand their production space, Vella said.

Sciortino needs more space to fulfill its roster of 150 restaurants and grocers that order bread and rolls wholesale, Vella said. Customers include a restaurant in Madison and Sendik’s grocery stores, she said.
