Syracuse's Cookie Connection Gluten Free Bakery Mixes Taste With Health

Editorial assistant Nariman Jiries interviewed Betty Johnson and Kathy Sniezak, who opened The Cookie Connection in February 2012.

Names: Kathy Sniezak, 56, and Betty Johnson, 54. Both live in Syracuse.

Tell me about your family: Kathy: husband, Gary; sons, John and Jeff DeSocio. Betty: husband, David; children, Ben and Lexi. We come from an Italian heritage where baking was as essential as breathing. My grandmother came from Italy in 1916 and taught her daughters how to bake; this ultimately was passed down to us. Our mother is 86 now and still helps us at the bakery.

In a few words, describe your business: We are a certified gluten free bakery (by the Celiac Sprue Association July, 2012) on a mission to offer quality gluten free products that not only taste good but are healthy and baked without preservatives.
