Under New Owners, St. Louis’ Pratzel’s Eastgate Bakery Is Filling Special Orders

As new owner Jon Mills gears up to fully open Praztel's Eastgate Bakery in August, he is selling to wholesale customers and filling special orders for retail customers. To order, call the bakery at 314-692-8100. Orders must be picked up at the bakery, 9265 Dielman Industrial Court in Olivette.

Pratzel's, which was the only kosher bakery in St. Louis, went out of business in January. In February, the owner of the local Breadsmith franchise announced plans to gain kosher certification and to begin selling breads at Kohn's Kosher Market, 10405 Old Olive Street Road in Creve Coeur, which had housed Pratzel's retail operation. And in March, Mills announced that he had bought Pratzel's trademark, recipes and kitchen equipment. He renamed the bakery Pratzel's Eastgate Bakery in memory of its previous location on Eastgate Avenue in University City.

According to Iris Salzman, who is handling public relations for Mills, the bakery can be difficult to find. There is not yet a sign or awning, although they should be installed soon and the address is on the door. In addition, the street is under construction and the only way to reach the parking lot is through the lot for the business next door.
