Rob Kaplan, Director of Product Sustainability for Walmart Inc., summarized Walmart’s Sustainability Index goals, which includes strengthening farmer networks from the ground-up. The goal is to create an ample supply of commodities grown with optimal amounts of fertilizer. Walmart tapped several ABA member companies this summer as it launched its grain chain Fertilizer Optimization goals. The goal is to map the grain supply chain and develop regional approaches to fertilizer optimization, a key hotspot highlighted by the Walmart Index. This project includes hot and cold cereal, crackers and cookies, commercial bread, and refrigerated dough. Mr. Kaplan addressed ABA’s Energy & Environment fall session in Washington DC.
