MILWAUKEE, Wis. – Talented decorators from Wisconsin and upper Illinois participated in the Art of the Cake Competition at the Pastry Studio during this year’s Wisconsin Restaurant Expo. The Art of the Cake Competition featured three opportunities for professional and student cake artists to showcase their talents: Extreme Wedding Cake Challenge, Creative Cake Decorating Competition, and new in 2013 – The Cupcake Warrior Championship.

Judges for the Extreme Wedding Cake Challenge and the Creative Cake Decorating Competition were Susan Runkel from Sweetheart Cakes in Port Washington, WI, Tom LaPierre, Pastry Arts Instructor at Milwaukee Area Technical College, and Chef Jenn Malvitz from Fox Valley Techncial College. The Cupcake Warrior Championship was judged by Sandy Ploy, Milwaukee’s Iron Cupcake, Debbie Gale, Milwaukee Cupcake Company, and Susan Runkel from Sweetheart Cakes in Port Washington, WI. All three competitions were sponsored by the Wisconsin Bakers Association and the Wisconsin Restaurant Association.
