Workers Strike At Richmond Baking Company

The president of the union representing striking workers at Richmond Baking Company says a mediation session has been planned for Saturday, and if a fair contract is offered, they want to get back on the job Sunday.

Two Chicago-based officials for the Bakery, Confectionery, Tobacco Workers and Grain Millers Local Union No. 1 spent time Tuesday with employees striking outside Richmond Baking Company. Union employees walked off the job Monday at 2 p.m.

Don Woods, president of the union, said workers felt disrespected and unappreciated by the company's contract offer, especially workers who started before 2005 who wouldn't receive a wage increase.
