Syngenta Releases 2013 Mum Catalog & New Poinsettia Supplement

Syngenta Flowers, Inc., announced today the publication of its 2013 mum catalog, featuring the all-inclusive Yoder® portfolio of garden mums, pot mums, asters and fleurettes. Highlights include eight new garden mum and six new pot mum varieties as well as comprehensive information for growers. In addition, the 2013 supplement for poinsettia introduces three new, first-class varieties.

Harper Government Helps Canadian Horticulture Plant Seeds for Success

Vineland Research and Innovation Centre will receive $50,000 to assist the Canadian Ornamental Horticulture Alliance in developing an innovation strategy for its members in the flowers, nursery, and landscape sectors. The strategy will prioritize research needs and accelerate the transfer of innovation from the lab to the marketplace. A strategic plan for research and innovation will help producers access these new and growing markets with innovations that are targeted to their needs.

High-tech floriculture will be blossoming in Kalamazoo, with construction of Hark Orchids' state-of-the-art, 35,000-square-foot Laboratory and Climactic Chambers at Midlink Business Park. A ceremonial ground-breaking event will be held on October 4 at the five-acre lot purchased by Hark Orchids from Midlink this past August.

AFE Announces New Officers & Trustees

Paul Bachman of Bachman’s Inc. in Minneapolis, Minnesota began has term as Chairman of the Endowment during AFE’s annual fundraising dinner on September 20th in Palm Beach. A veteran of the industry, Paul began working in the family business when he was 13. He received the SAF Marketer of the Year Award in 2011 and is a Past Chairman of the American Floral Marketing Council, a past Chairman of the National PromoFlor Marketing Council, a Past Director of SAF and a Past President of the Minnesota State Florists Association. Paul has served on the AFE Board of Trustees since 2004. He will serve two years as AFE’s Chairman.
