Iwig Family Dairy Has Big Plans To Exit Bankruptcy

Tim Iwig has big plans for the future of his family’s dairy business, but first he has to convince a court the business can be successful.

Iwig Family Dairy opened a second Lawrence location on Saturday at 622 N. 2nd St. The new store is part of a Chapter 12 bankruptcy reorganization plan the dairy filed for in November to allow it to avoid liquidation, Iwig said.

The new store was meant to increase customers in Lawrence who felt the location at 1901 Massachusetts St. was inconvenient, according to a news release about its opening. Lawrence has potential for strong growth because of a demand for healthy, locally produced food, Iwig said.

In addition to milk, butter and ice cream, the new store offers fresh produce from local growers, Iwig said. They also have plans to begin selling ice cream by the cone, as well as in containers to take home, and are working on a frozen yogurt recipe, he said.
