Beemster Cheese Teams Up With Arbor Day Foundation To Plant Trees In America’s Forests

Nebraska City, Neb. – Beemster Cheese, makers of premium, gourmet Dutch cheeses, is partnering with the Arbor Day Foundation to plant trees in America’s forests.

Beemster Cheese, which has been making cheese for more than a century, will donate 50 cents to the Arbor Day Foundation for each pound of cheese sold under the Farmers Choice label from April 1 through June 30. The donations received by Beemster Cheese will go to the Foundation’s Replanting Our Nation’s Forests campaign to add trees to forests that have been devastated by wildfire, insects and disease.

“Beemster Cheese serves as an example of a company that is committed to improving the environment by planting trees,” said Brian Schenk, corporate partnership manager at the Arbor Day Foundation. “The trees planted by Beemster Cheese will provide so many benefits, such as cleaner air and water, habitat for wildfire and beauty for everyone to enjoy in forests that need them most.”

The Arbor Day Foundation is the nation’s largest nonprofit organization dedicated to planting trees. It has worked with the U.S. Forest Service since 1990 to plant trees in our nation’s forests. The Foundation also teams up with the National Association of State Foresters to plant trees on state forest lands.

Farmers’ Choice cheese is the favorite cheese of the farmers of the Beemster cooperative, 500 farmers in North Holland each with only 25-75 cows. “We thought it fitting to have the partnership with the Arbor Day Foundation around the cheese that our farmers favor since they are pushing, with our cheese makers, to be the most sustainable cooperative,” said Michael Blum, Director of USA for Beemster. Beemster and Farmers’ Choice is available in most superior retailers throughout the USA. “Beemster is proud to have a partner with the Arbor Day Foundation to continue our pledge to be sustainable and spread sustainable practices in areas in which we sell product,” Blum said.

Beemster is in the Caring Dairy partnership for sustainability Ben & Jerry’s of Europe. This partnership includes important aspects such as: Carbon neutral production methods, environmentally friendly use of all pastures, enjoyable lives for cows by grazing outside, clean milk free of growth hormones and antibiotics and ensuring a fair milk price for the farmers of the coop.

About Beemster Cheese: Beemster cheese is located in North Holland among the quiet canal-lined pastures where our cows have grazed freely since 1612. The milk from this region is smoother and sweeter than from other regions. This makes Beemster cheese creamier and more tasteful than any other Dutch cheese. Generations of Master Cheesemakers handcraft each wheel using artisan techniques. Beemster is aged in historic warehouses under natural conditions adding to the renowned old-world, award-winning taste.
