Elizabeth, New Jersey— The Specialty Food Association’s sofi™ Awards have been honoring the best in specialty food for 47 years. On May 1, 2019, Deca & Otto Dulce de Leche, made with 100% Colombian water buffalo milk, was honored with a GOLD sofi™ Award in the Dessert Sauce, Topping or Syrup Category. Winners were selected through a blind tasting process by a panel of 60 expert judges, including chefs, culinary instructors, recipe developers, food journalists and specialty food buyers. Products were evaluated on taste, ingredient quality and innovation—honorees are true innovators in their categories.
Deca & Otto Dulce de Leche is the most sophisticated version of the traditional South American milk caramel spread. For an elegant texture and captivating flavor, 100% grass-fed water buffalo milk from Colombia is carefully heated and gently sweetened. The result is a decadent confection with a silky and smooth texture, a glossy-bronze color and a natural sweet taste. It is mostly used and enjoyed as a topping for desserts such as, ice creams and custards or used to enhance cakes, pastries and cheesecakes. Buffalo milk has 30% less cholesterol than other milks, plus more protein and a significant amount of calcium. The product is low in sodium, all-natural and wonderful drizzled on an apple or enjoyed straight from a spoon.
Deca & Otto crafts dairy products strictly from 100% grass fed water buffalo, who roam free on their own Colombian farms. Preservatives and antibiotics are never used. Their product line includes Burrata, Ciliegine and Dulce de Leche.
