Prosciutto Recall By Second Distributor May Pose Health Concern

A recall of Prosciutto products has been announced by a company in Springfield, Virginia. International Gourmet issued the recall after learning the Prosciutto may be contaminated with listeria monocytogenes. As this product was distributed in North Carolina, Charlotte residents may want to be aware of this recall.

Recently Orlando Greco & Son Imports based in Carol Stream, Illinois, had a recall of the same product. The United States Department of Agriculture Food Safety Inspection Service was notified by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency about the possible contamination. As the Prosciutto being recalled originated from one location, no doubt all businesses that have this product will be notified.

Consuming products that contain listeria may lead to listeriosis. A person who is infected may have a fever, stiff neck, nausea, muscle aches and sometimes convulsions. A blood test can determine if someone has listeriosis or another bacterial infection.
