Retailers Fined For Inaccurate Scales

PHOENIX — A CBS 5 News investigation has uncovered a number of errors on the scales of local businesses.

Scales at the deli counter, the meat department, and even in the check-out line can all have problems, according to state inspectors.

“You don’t want to be cheated,” said grocery shopper Israel Robles. “You should get what you pay for.”

Every day, inspector Linda Wetzel with Arizona’s Department of Weights and Measures keeps Valley businesses honest by checking to see if their scales are calibrated correctly.
