SEATTLE — Growers from Oregon, Washington and Alaska have joined forces to meet Seattle's demand for cut flowers, greens and ornamentals.
The Seattle Wholesale Growers Market Cooperative has set up shop in a historic brewery, with 15 members so far planning to bring in a wide variety of plants.
"It's early yet, and only half our growers showed up for the first day," co-op president Diane Szukovathy said. "But most everyone who has come in is buying."
Janet Foss, in her 30th year of growing cut flowers in Chehalis, Wash., said members publicized the co-op's opening to their existing client base, and about 350 people are now on the mailing list.
