‘Gerbera Alain Ducasse’ At Two-Michelin-Star Restaurant Ron Blaauw Amsterdam

On occasion of the recordings of Dutch broadcaster NTR of the television program College Tour and the dinner at two-Michelin-star restaurant Ron Blaauw Amsterdam on March 14 2011, a new large flowered Gerbera of Florist De Kwakel was awarded with the name “Alain Ducasse”.

Working closely with Master Chef Ron Blaauw, culinary journalist and chef Alain Caron and PR consultant / secretary of the Dutch Hospitality Education Institute for Master examination Carsten Klint, the breeding company Florist De Kwakel selected a special cocktail-coloured Gerbera, in honor of the famous French chef Alain Ducasse, who visited the Netherlands last week. During the official dinner at Ron Blaauw Amsterdam, Export Manager Sjaak Sijm of Florist De Kwakel offered the flowers to Alain Ducasse. According to tradition, the Gerbera was festively baptized by pouring Champagne over the flower, an application of the French nectar which for Ducasse was somewhat strange.

Florist De Kwakel specializes in breeding and propagation of Gerbera cut flowers and pot plants. The family business from the Netherlands is leading in the international flower industry and exports to over 80 countries worldwide. “Gerbera Alain Ducasse” – double flowered and two-toned cream/pink with black heart – is the result of four years of intensive breeding by Florist De Kwakel.
