New Blooms For 2011

Each year member companies in the National Garden Bureau provide information on new introductions. Seeds are available in e-commerce website, mail order catalogues or retail stores. After browsing through this year's collection, I've chosen several flower varieties, and vegetable introductions (to be featured next week) that caught my eye.

Begonia 'Gryphon'

Superb, tropical-like foliage combines majestic beauty with strength and durability. The silver and green leaves deliver "wow" in the garden and make a bold, dramatic statement in mixed or solo containers. Easy-to-grow, has low water needs and works best in the shade. Return to indoors before frost.

Calibrachoa ‘MiniFamous™ Double Pink evol.’

Remember the million bells fad? These dainty little trailers could be found hanging from arbor hooks across the country. Calibrachoa is now even better than before, with a new double pink variety. The blooms are early and rich, free flowering at the same time. The habit and branching is great, and it fits any format from baskets to mixed containers of any kind. A compact, easy-to-grow annual for full to part sun.
