Platinum Coast Orchid Growers Group Hosts Show & Sale

Orchids are addictive, as Charlie Scholes can attest. The Merritt Island resident’s orchid obsession began innocently enough when Scholes volunteered to help with the dendrobiums friends had given his wife, Patti, after her mother passed away. Soon thereafter, Charlie found himself a willing participant.

“Men seem to do really well with orchids,” says Patti, a member of the Platinum Coast Orchid Society.

The male bond with these plants may be strong because orchids are the Angelina Jolies of the plant world. It’s hard not to become smitten by their good looks.

Charlie Scholes’ latest object of affection is a stunning, showy cattleya that has not one, but 18 — yes, 18 — four-inch blossoms that knock the socks out of anyone who sees them.
