To All Loyal Harvest Meats Customers:
As many of you might know, we are currently involved in a Voluntary Class III Recall of some of our products. Information to help you identify the specific products and affected batches is shown below. A class III recall is defined as:
"a situation in which the use of, or exposure to, a product is not likely to cause any adverse health consequences; the product is in contravention of an Act or Regulation enforced by the CFIA"
It is important to understand in this case there is no health risk to the consumer.
What has transpired is that, Harvest Meats was informed by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency that one of our suppliers that is regulated by the CFIA had shipped a small quantity of Beef to our facility in which we used in the production of a small volume of Harvest product over a period of 3 days. These products are of no risk to the consumer and the supplying plant had simply not followed specific protocols therefore causing the issuing of the voluntary withdrawal.
As you can understand, Harvest Meats simply used product that, at the time, there was no concern with.
Once Harvest Meats was given the notification of the concerns we quickly worked with the CFIA and initiated the voluntary withdrawal, keeping in mind that this is not a food safety concern but rather a regulation issue we still believe that if the product was not good enough to meet CFIA standards it was not good enough for our standards and we wanted nothing more then to get any remaining product out of the market to keep loyal to our customers. It is unfortunate if this was perceived as anything less or different then that.
The recall notification that has been noted is prepared by the CFIA as both the CFIA and Harvest Meats have to follow certain protocols in these types of situations.
