Knives Come Out For Whole Foods Market Best Butcher Competition

If you can't take the meat, stay out of the competition.

The knives were out at Whole Foods Market's third annual Best Butcher competition as hungry shoppers gathered to watch the best butchers in the Northeast slaughter the competition at the Bowery store Thursday afternoon.

Three butchers were selected out of 26 stores in the tri-state area based on their precision, knowledge and meat mastery to vie for bragging rights and a chance to compete at Portland Fest, the Best Butcher finale in Oregon, this September.

"My arm is about to fall off, but I'm looking good out here," said contestant Gerson "The Legend" Zapata, from the Columbus Circle Whole Foods.
