Meat Market Owners Draw On CSU Experience

Question: How did Mike's Meat Market come to open in Fort Collins and how long has it been open?

Answer: We opened our first retail market and USDA inspected facility in Sterling in April 2008. We only found it fitting that we expand in a great city such as Fort Collins. We felt there was a need for quality fresh and smoked meat products in the area. Our retail market in Fort Collins opened in September.

Q: You, your husband and manager Tanner Carpenter are all CSU graduates with years of experience in animal science, agribusiness and meat science. How does that experience help you at the store?

A: It has everything to do with it. We all graduated from CSU with either animal science, ag business or meat science degrees. We have grown up in the agricultural industry, and it is the best place to be. We probably wouldn't have gotten to know each other without meeting at Colorado State University. Through college and past industry employment, we have gained the knowledge to help us make Mike's Meat Market LLC happen. Mike started putting ideas together for a meat market more than five years ago. It hasn't been easy, and it still isn't, but we keep moving forward with the help of family and friends.

Q: What exactly does the meat market offer?
