Ecuador Increases Market Share at the New York Produce Show

The Trade Office of Ecuador in New York exhibited at the New York Produce Show, December 5-7, 2023, in New York City, New York.  Juan Pablo Cuesta, Trade Commissioner for Ecuador’s Trade Office in New York, stated “It is our responsibility to spotlight Ecuadorian exporters to the U.S. market.  Participating in the New York Produce Show and being able to present several Ecuadorian export companies to the fresh produce industry has been a great resource for us as at the Trade Office.”  The New York Produce Show and Conference posed an excellent forum and world-class event for the produce industry.  Cuesta states, “As U.S. trade with Latin American countries increase, the demand from U.S. consumers for new products is also on the rise.  Ecuadorian tropical produce growers are prepared to fill the demands of the U.S. market with several fresh new commodities.”

The United States is a key trading commercial partner to Ecuador.  Ecuador has already increased imports of fruits and vegetables by 11% for each category – January through October 2022 over 2023, according to USDA/FAS statistics. Cuesta adds “We value our trade relationship with the U.S.  We will continue promoting Ecuadorian fruits in the U.S., by creating awareness to key players within the industry.”

Ecuadorian Exporters at New York Produce Show

Ecuador had six exporters showcasing their best products to the Northeast and beyond buying region at the New York Produce show.  These exporters exhibited fresh dragon fruit red and yellow, fresh herbs, fresh granadilla, fresh yucca, malanga, tomate de arbol, cacao and many other tropical and exotic offerings.

Exporters from Ecuador felt that by participating in the New York Produce Show it assisted them in creating awareness/promotion of their products to such an important market.  The exporters gained knowledge of the buying market by meeting with several new contacts, that would expand their exports to various U.S. ports and other countries.  The exporters went on to say, that the benefits of exhibiting provided them with the opportunity of obtaining broader visibility, possibility of expanding operations within new markets by the creating strategic partnerships with a variety of potential clients.  Unanimously and collectively, the exporters confirmed that their attendance at the New York Produce Show, gave them the best possible start to expand market share within the U.S. and beyond.

The New York Produce Show is the best opportunity for the northeast, retailers, wholesalers, distributors, buyers, and food service to assess new products and services that are being introduced to the industry.  “It is imperative that Ecuadorian exporters be present and share their fresh commodities, product knowledge and benefits with the U.S. buying marketers.  The Trade Office of Ecuador considers of significant importance to participate in produce industry events to convey knowledge, availability, and nutritional benefits of our Ecuadorian fresh produce,” adds Cuesta.

The Trade Office of Ecuador in New York will be organizing produce mission trips and inviting buyers and produce industry professionals to acquaint themselves with the pristine tropical climates, growing regions/ conditions and best practices of agricultural trade with Ecuador.
