Kingsville, ON – Gourmet greenhouse grower/marketer Mastronardi Produce has once again taken top honors at the annual Hottest Tomato Competition; the company’s SUNSET® Campari® brand cocktail tomato was chosen as the Best Cocktail Tomato for 2012.

In addition to the Best Cocktail Tomato Award, Mastronardi also received the following awards as a part of the Hottest Tomato, Perfect Pepper, and Coolest Cucumber Competitions:

Over the course of 2 days, visitors to the competitions were able to sample dozens of different types of greenhouse tomatoes, peppers and cucumbers. Throughout the weekend, there was a consistent buzz surrounding the wide variety of SUNSET® products on display, especially the new brown Zulu bell pepper that was chosen the People’s Choice Award as a part of the Perfect Pepper Competition.
“The Hottest Tomato, Perfect Pepper, and Coolest Cucumber Competitions continue to grow each year, the support has been overwhelming with a consistent increase in participation each year”, stated Art Barron, Event Organizer & President of R.E.A.C.H. International. R.E.A.C.H. International, a locally funded charitable organization, hosts this event each year. All proceeds from the event go towards educational support for children in developing countries as well as to help local food banks.
In addition to receiving these top awards, Mastronardi Produce also received top honours recently from the International Taste and Quality Institute (ITQI) for its SUNSET® Campari brand cocktail tomato for its exceptional taste & overall flavour. This is the third year in a row that Mastronardi has been recognized by the institute for its gourmet tomatoes.
