Monterey Mushrooms 2011-2012 Carl Victor Fields Scholarship Program

Monterey Mushrooms is pleased to announce that annual scholarships have been awarded for the school year of 2011-2012. 127 students received new or renewed awards totaling over $162,000. This means that Monterey's scholarship program initiated in 1992, has now awarded over $1.6 million in awards to over 1,110 dependent children of its employees.

As these numbers reflect, Monterey remains committed to helping the dependent children of our employees prepare for the challenges of the future and achieve their goals, whether they are in the fields of business, science or technology. These challenges are always in the forefront of the planning of Shah Kazemi, president and chief executive officer of Monterey Mushrooms. "As a country and as a company, we must look to the vision and strength of our people to prepare for the future. And it follows that the skills and achievements of our young people – including the dependent children of our employees – are critical as we continue into this decade."

Also keenly aware of the value of continuing education, the late Carl Fields – for whom this program was named – was passionate about the importance of young people achieving their goals and becoming all that they can be. Kazemi continued, "Carl strived mightily and diligently in his efforts to help our young people achieve their potential."

Applications were received from Monterey Mushrooms' multi-site facilities located throughout North America. They were evaluated on academic achievement, financial need and future potential. The awards are made for one year at a time, for a total of four years if the student continues to meet the criteria of the program.
