Organic Washington Apricot Harvest Underway

SEDRO-WOOLLEY, WA – Leading organic produce marketer CF Fresh is bringing organic Washington apricots from scenic Wahluke Orchards to market again this year.

Andy Arnold, who has operated Wahluke Heights since 1979, grows his organic Rival and Perfection apricots on 18 acres with one of the most scenic backdrops in the region.  This area in southeastern Washington State is the only place in the United States where the famous Columbia River flows freely, and the 300 square miles of scenic desert of the Hanford Reach National Monument teem with wildlife.

CF Fresh is expecting to pack 8,000 cases of organically grown apricots from the Wahluke Heights orchard.  The apricots will be packed in a 2-layer box with panta pack trays as well as 24 lbs volume fill.  The first packing run was on July 9th and movement of the boxes has been brisk.

Paul McCaffrey from CF Fresh notes that the quality of the fruit this year is high. “The fruit is large, peaking on 70-series, and the quality, flavor and color have been great,” he says.

The apricots are harvesting about a week earlier than last year, and availability is expected to last about three weeks, McCaffrey adds.
