Philadelphia Wholesale Produce Market & Delaware River Ports Support Victims Of Hurricane Sandy

DELAWARE RIVER PORTS – Organizers from private and public sector port businesses and agencies throughout the tri-state region have scheduled a one-day donation drive to help those affected by Hurricane Sandy.  The collection time is from 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 17.  The efforts will support several New Jersey charitable and relief organizations, such as the Salvation Army, and the United Way of Monmouth County.

“We in the Delaware River Valley were extremely lucky that Sandy caused little to no damage in our area,” said Kurt Ferry, of Greenwich Terminals.  “Helping our friends and colleagues is something we felt we needed to do.”
Drop-off locations are established at three area facilities:

Philadelphia                            Gloucester                                          Wilmington

Philadelphia Wholesale               Gloucester Marine Terminal                    Chase Center on

Produce Market                          King & Essex Streets                               the Riverfront

6700 Essington Ave                    Gloucester, NJ                                       815 Justison St.

Philadelphia, PA                                                                                     Wilmington, DE

In addition to the three site operators, others donating services to support the event include, but are certainly not limited to, Dole, Hamburg Süd, the International Longshoreman’s Association, and Trinity Distribution Services.

“The members of our port community have always collaborated on business issues affecting the port.  Now our community is demonstrating its willingness to work together to help people when they need it most,” said Lisa Himber, of the Maritime Exchange for the Delaware River and Bay.
Based on comments from the relief organizations, the group is looking primarily for non-perishable food items, though clothing, toiletries, cleaning supplies and other necessary items are also being accepted.

The ports are responsible for over 134,945 jobs in the Delaware Valley, over $3 billion in revenues, and over $400 million in state/local taxes.
