Produce For Better Health Foundation Announces 2018 Formula 5 Student Marketing Competition Finalists

The Produce for Better Health Foundation (PBH) is proud to announce the finalists of the Formula 5 Student Marketing Competition.  The competition offers marketing students from accredited colleges and universities within the United States the opportunity to create a marketing pitch that will increase consumption of fruit and vegetables.  Each team has access to a leader in the fruit and vegetable industry to be a mentor as they create their proposal.

“This is a wonderful experience both for the four student groups and the produce industry,” said PBH Formula 5 Committee Chairman Greg Johnson, Editor of The Packer. “We get to see and hear the ways these college students would market fruit and vegetable products, and they get to meet and talk to those of us who do it every day.”

A panel of judges scored each presentation to determine the finalists based on criteria such as: business proposition, financials, marketing tactics, measurements, and viability of the product/marketing proposal. The chosen finalists will compete at PBH’s Annual Conference: The Consumer Connection in Scottsdale, Arizona on April 6th, 2018 by presenting their proposals to fruit and vegetable leaders.

The 2018 PBH Formula 5 Finalists and corresponding produce product pitches include:

  • Arizona State University – Moderna Moringa Greens
  • Concordia University, Saint Paul, Minnesota – Vibes Premium Coconut Chips
  • University of North Dakota – Broc-Tons
  • University of Wisconsin, Whitewater – Odyssey Greek WOAHgurt

“We are delighted to sponsor this program and inspire the next generation of marketers, “said PBH’s President & CEO, Wendy Reinhardt Kapsak, MS, RDN. “This group of finalists have done a wonderful job proposing new and innovative ideas to incorporate more fruit and vegetables on the plates of consumers.”
