Progressive Produce Implements Companywide Wellness Program

Los Angeles, CA – Progressive Produce announces that it is officially UP! President Jim Leimkuhler has implemented a companywide wellness program for all administrative personnel by issuing each of them the UP Band made by Jawbone. This unique wrist band measures steps, sleeping habits, and can interface with other apps, making it easier for users to watch what they eat by recording calorie intake. The goal is a healthier workforce by encouraging employees to get “UP” and moving.

As part of Progressive’s health insurance renewal, the company’s insurance carrier strongly suggested that Progressive implement a wellness program. Additionally, Leimkuhler and his business partners, Jack Gyben and Victor Rodarte, were concerned that their health insurance premiums were rising due to high claims experienced in the prior year. “A wellness program makes sense since our industry is all about healthy and nutritious fresh produce” said Gyben. After hearing a couple of employees praise the Jawbone product line, Leimkuhler decided to give the UP Band to 60 people in the company with the objective of inspiring each of his employees to improve their lifestyle.

Jeannie Berger, the Company’s controller and one of the first employees to use the UP Band, quickly noticed how excited people were to receive one. Berger noted that she has already seen people moving more and trying not to be the person with the least amount of steps each day. “Employees are even parking further back in the parking lot just so they can get more steps walking into the building,” said Berger.

One of the added benefits of the UP Band program at Progressive is that it has already started bringing people together. Progressive works 24/7 in our main facility and has offices in other parts of Los Angeles, Bakersfield, and Washington. “Soon the company will be starting some healthy competition between different teams to see which ones can move the most over a period of time”, reports HR Manager Stephanie Lord. These competitions will allow employees that work opposite shifts or in different offices to feel more connected- all because of the Jawbone UP Band.

“It’s pretty fun to feel the excitement. I can’t wait for some of the competition to begin. Being President means I can’t finish last, so I’m going to have to be more active too,” said Leimkuhler.
