Roger W. Gates Joins Fresh Tech Systems

Fresh produce packaging professional, Roger W. Gates, joins with Fresh Tech Systems, to spur new sales activity.

Roger Gates has worked in fresh produce packaging for 3 decades and had a small role in the introduction of Modified Atmosphere/Controlled Atmosphere Packaging (MAP/CAP) of retail salads in bags and trays. His contributions to the industry include breakthroughs in reclosable packaging, tray packaging, and global expansion in the use of microperforations.

Gates says, One area that has always eluded me is an anti-microbial food packaging system that is truly effective in not only suppressing decay mechanisms and many pathogens affecting shelf-life and food safety in fresh produce, but actually reducing them – killing them, without hurting the appearance, color, aroma, flavor, texture, etc. Today, this is precisely what Fresh Tech Systems pallet packaging system offers, with up to a 3-log reduction in cfu’s, with FDA approval and Organic certification, improving upon brand x and its 30-year old technology.

We have all seen bad produce on display occasionally, yet a recent US Grocery study has also shown that 60% of consumers find the fresh produce they just bought is not satisfactory when they get it home. How many will actually give the Retail Grocer or the Shipper feedback or complaint? Evidently, less than 20%, but something like 66% will change their shopping routine as a result. So it is next to impossible to measure loss of customers due to poor freshness. On the other

hand, not only does freshness bring customers back to your produce aisles, it boosts sales in the center aisles.

The FreshProtechPlus™ system enables Grocers and Shippers to deliver fresher, more food safe, more appealing produce. The added benefits continue their positive effect well beyond removal of the pallet packaging at the Retailers’ Central Distribution Centers.

> Who wants to improve consumer satisfaction with fresh produce?

> Who is considering how much consumers are throwing away?

> Who wants to help reduce global food waste?

> Who does not want to reduce food safety risk?

Gates adds, “We’re not promoting a longer sales cycle. We just don’t want your berries or other fresh produce to use up their entire shelf-life in distribution and retail display. An additional 3-4 days quality shelf-life is enough to make the difference between a customer being frustrated and going away… or, having a very positive experience and coming back for more.”

In a parallel move, Fresh Tech Systems has moved its facilities to Salinas, CA. Gates invites readers to go to www.freshprotech.com for more information. He also wishes to acknowledge these studies in the preparation of this press release.
