The Produce Mom Promotes Let's Move Salad Bars To Schools Initiative

INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana – The Produce Mom appeared on the Indy Style program on WISH-TV 8 in Indianapolis Thursday to promote the Let’s Move Salad Bars to Schools Initiative. With the goal of getting a salad bar in every school in the United States, this program founded by the United Fresh Produce Association supports First Lady Michelle Obama’s “Let’s Move!” initiative.

Joining The Produce Mom on Indy Style was Hilary Martin of Frey Farms, the United Fresh Midwest Salad Bar Captain. The two discussed the new national focus of getting salad bars into Midwestern schools. Until the summer of 2016, the main emphasis of Let’s Move Salad Bars to Schools is to increase children’s produce consumption by providing salad bars to schools in the six Midwest states of Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio and Wisconsin.

“School is a great environment to expose children to a variety of fruits and veggies. Salad bars are popular with students and make it easy for schools to serve a wide variety of fresh produce.  That’s why the produce industry is working hard to bring Salad Bars to every school in the Midwest,” said Lori Taylor, The Produce Mom.

“Every child should have access to fresh fruits and vegetables. With the Let’s Move Salad Bars to Schools program, children feel empowered to make healthy choices. It also reduces waste because kids take what they want and eat what they take,” said Hilary Martin, Frey Farms.
