Going Deep: Minor League Food Business Is Not Minor

Kira Weir expects the unexpected.

As general manager of Harrisburg’s Sportsservice concession operation at Metro Bank Park, she has to be ready for whatever Senators fans throw her way.

Sometimes, though, even the most experienced hospitality industry professionals get caught off guard.

“Somebody asked me for sushi,” Weir said. “I’d expect that in California. Maybe even Baltimore or Boston, but in a land-locked town such as Harrisburg? That was something.

“I said, ‘Do you want me to get sushi from the Susquehanna?’”

Pennsylvania is the fifth state in which Weir has lived in the past seven years. The Colorado native previously worked and lived in California (San Diego’s Petco Park), Ohio (Cincinnati’s Great American Ballpark), Massachusetts (Boston’s Fenway Park) and Maryland (Baltimore’s Camden Yards).
