NGA Appoints Mike Jackson As President And CEO

ARLINGTON, VA, — Chris Coborn, President and CEO of Coborn’s Incorporated and the N.G.A. Chairman of the Board of the National Grocers Association (N.G.A.) today announced the appointment of Mike Jackson, former President and COO of SUPERVALU, as the associations new President and CEO.

Mike possesses the industry knowledge, professional experience, leadership skills and passion to lead N.G.A. to the next level of excellence in representing and serving the independent retailer and wholesaler said Chris Coborn. As the former President and Chief Operating Officer of SUPERVALU, Mike Jackson has spent the majority of his career working directly with independent operators. He fervently believes in the unique role that we play in serving the consumer and is passionately committed to our future.

Mike Jackson stated I am thrilled with the opportunity to lead N.G.A. and take the support of the independent sector in the food industry to the next level.

Tom Zaucha said I look forward to working with Mike during this transition period. It is a very exciting time for N.G.A. and the independent sector. Under Mikes leadership the association and membership will continue to grow and prosper.

Mike Jackson will formally take the reins as President and CEO on March 1, 2010. Tom Zaucha has identified June 30th as his retirement date. Beginning March 1st Tom will continue to serve the industry as President emeritus where he will provide counsel to the staff and membership on strategic public policy initiatives, membership development and critical business relationships.

Mike Jackson most recently held the position of SUPERVALU president and chief operating officer. He was responsible for implementing the companys strategic vision, as well as for overseeing the Retail East operations of ACME, FARM FRESH, SHAWS, and SHOPPERS, in addition to SAVE-A-LOT. Prior to joining SUPERVALU, Jackson was a store manager for Red Owl Foods. He began his SUPERVALU career in 1979 as a retail counselor at the companys Green Bay division, and during his 30-year tenure, Jackson has held a number of positions throughout SUPERVALU in both supply chain services and retail operations. Jackson served as senior vice president of operations for Retail Food Companies from 1999 to 2001, and was subsequently named executive vice president and president of Distribution Food Companies in 2001.
